I
had forgotten that it is Easter Monday, until we got to the car park in Benimaurell
and found it much busier than usual.
Enough space for us to park, but many more cars than normal.
There
were ten of us for today’s walk, which was led by David
It’s
hard to believe that it is more than a year since we last did this walk, last
February in fact.
Paid a visit to the deserted village, as we usually do. Someone has been working on this village for the past ten years at least, but does not seem to be making much progress.

Right
from the start we met a lot of Spanish walkers, mostly young ones.
Apparently
one of them commented on the “fit old people”, no doubt to them we looked too
old to be out without our zimmer frames.
This
is a long and exposed walk, and it made me realise that it is better to do this
walk earlier in the year when it is not so hot.
Apart
from a lot of Spanish, we also met with Dave and Sue and a group of their
paying visitors doing the walk in the opposite direction. This is their regular Monday walk and we
often see them when we do it.
When
we reached Venta del Collau, the rural restaurant, there were again many more
cars than usual and parked all over the place.
Not sure whether they were all eating or out walking.
When
we finished the walk we were also surprised to find that our regular bar in the
village was closed on such a busy day.
